Built by Yardhouse, the planned 20-home community features 10 duplex buildings, with nine homes designated for low- or moderate-income households.
SAN DIEGO, CA, UNITED STATES, September 10, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Mankind Investment Group, the developer and general partner behind Akino Living, has completed the first four rental homes at its residential development at 6170 Akins Avenue in San Diego’s Encanto neighborhood. The homes occupy the first two completed buildings in a planned community of 20 residences across 10 duplex buildings.
Construction began in February 2026, with Yardhouse serving as general contractor. The remaining homes will be delivered in phases.
Akino Living takes a clustered approach to residential development: two homes per building, with entrances serving pairs of buildings. The layout creates smaller groups of neighboring homes within the broader community, reflecting Mankind’s approach to residential development across its portfolio.
“We believe residents should feel proud of where they live,” said Jake Risman, general partner at Mankind Investment Group. “With Akino, we wanted to offer another housing option in Encanto: smaller buildings, thoughtfully finished homes and entrances shared by a small group of neighbors.”
The development includes one-, two-, and three-bedroom floor plans ranging from 474 to 1,200 square feet. Nine of the planned 20 homes are designated for low- or moderate-income households, with eligibility requirements applying to those residences.
Developed on a site previously occupied by a small home, Akino reflects Mankind’s focus on adding housing through compact residential projects. Its duplex buildings combine lower and upper residences, with a mix of single-level and multilevel floor plans.
Yardhouse’s construction work at Akino brings together its focus on managing building costs, construction schedules and repeatable residential designs. The company serves both residential developers and individual homeowners building accessory dwelling units.
“Construction cost and timing are central to whether new housing gets built,” Risman said. “Our approach is to pair a repeatable building design with disciplined execution, while keeping the resident’s experience at the center of the project.”
