Grant Thornton LLP today announced that it has acquired CBIZ CPAs P.C., marking another step in the broader combination of Grant Thornton and CBIZ announced earlier this week.
Grant Thornton operates in the U.S. through two specialized entities: Grant Thornton LLP, a licensed certified public accounting firm that provides audit and assurance services, and Grant Thornton Advisors LLC, which provides non-attest services, including tax and advisory services. Together, the two entities and their subsidiaries operate in an alternative practice structure as Grant Thornton in the U.S.
Grant Thornton LLP’s acquisition of CBIZ CPAs P.C. complements the earlier transaction in which Grant Thornton Advisors LLC acquired non-attest service provider CBIZ, Inc. Together, the transactions significantly expand Grant Thornton’s scale, capabilities and reach, creating the fifth-largest U.S. provider of professional services, tax and advisory offerings, with more than $5 billion in annual domestic revenue.
The combination also means the Grant Thornton Advisors multinational platform is growing to more than 34,500 professionals across the Americas, Europe, the Middle East and the Asia-Pacific region.
“Bringing Grant Thornton LLP and CBIZ CPAs P.C. together strengthens what we can deliver for our clients. We’ll have deeper industry experience, greater capabilities and even more opportunity to invest in our people, technology and, most importantly, audit quality,” said Ron Messenger, CEO of Grant Thornton LLP. “At the same time, what matters most won’t change. Our commitment to quality, independence and serving the public interest will remain at the heart of what we do, while our professionals continue to earn our clients’ trust and bring the judgment and insights they need as their businesses evolve and grow.”
CBIZ CPAs P.C. will remain a separate licensed public accounting firm during a transition period, after which it is expected to be integrated with Grant Thornton LLP.
About Grant Thornton in the U.S.

Grant Thornton LLP, Grant Thornton Advisors LLC and their respective subsidiaries operate as an alternative practice structure (APS). The APS conforms with applicable laws, regulations and professional standards, including those from the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
“Grant Thornton” refers to the brand under which the member firms in the Grant Thornton International Limited (GTIL) network provide services to their clients and/or refers to one or more member firms. Grant Thornton LLP and Grant Thornton Advisors LLC serve as the U.S. member firms of the GTIL network. GTIL and its member firms are not a worldwide partnership and all member firms are separate legal entities. Member firms deliver all services; GTIL does not provide services to clients.
