TrustedSite, the earned certification program that helps online businesses prove they are safe and legitimate, today announced that its trust badge app has earned Built for Shopify status, Shopify’s highest standard for apps in its ecosystem.

Built for Shopify is granted to apps that meet Shopify’s highest bar for design, speed, and reliability inside the Shopify admin. Apps must demonstrate that they run cleanly in the admin, load quickly, and deliver measurable merchant value, and they must continue meeting that standard to retain the status.

Why trust is harder to earn on an unfamiliar store

The recognition comes as AI makes it harder for shoppers to tell a real store from a fake one. In TrustedSite’s 2026 State of Ecommerce Trust survey of 1,295 US consumers, 96% of shoppers said they are concerned about buying from sites they have never heard of, compared with 48% for large, established brands. Concern about fake businesses created with AI-generated content reached 94%.

Trust badges can help. In the same survey, 82% of shoppers said they are more likely to trust a site that prominently displays a third-party verified trust badge, and 74% said seeing the TrustedSite badge on an unfamiliar site would make them more likely to complete a purchase.

Shopify merchants also have access to Carbon-Neutral Shipping, a certification available only on Shopify through an integration with Shopify’s Planet app.

Earned trust badges that convert

Unlike many trust badge apps, TrustedSite’s badges are earned. Sites are continuously monitored against TrustedSite’s certification standards, and certifications are revoked when a site falls out of compliance. Sites that have tested TrustedSite badges have seen conversion increases as high as 30%.
