SAN FRANCISCO, CA / ACCESS Newswire / October 8, 2026 / Rahman Popal, founder and owner of The Law Firm For Tenant Rights, Inc., has joined the Board of Directors of Legal Assistance to the Elderly (LAE). LAE is a San Francisco nonprofit that provides free legal services to seniors and adults with disabilities.
Popal is a tenant rights attorney and litigator with more than a decade of experience. He founded The Law Firm For Tenant Rights, Inc. in 2021 and represents San Francisco tenants facing landlord harassment, unsafe housing conditions, wrongful eviction, and discriminatory practices. He is a former human rights fellow, and he has long held that housing is a human right. That belief lines up closely with LAE’s work keeping San Francisco’s older residents safely housed.
“Elderly tenants and tenants with disabilities are some of the most vulnerable renters in San Francisco, and LAE has spent decades making sure they don’t face those challenges alone,” said Popal. “I’m honored to join the board and help support an organization whose work keeps people in their homes and protects their dignity.”
LAE helps San Francisco seniors and adults with disabilities with housing, health care access, financial stability, and safety, including protection from elder abuse and scams. According to the organization, it serves nearly 2,000 people each year at no cost to them.
Popal has been named a Northern California Rising Star by Super Lawyers every year since 2020. He has written for Plaintiff Magazine, including “Establishing bad-faith landlord harassment” and “Trebling personal-injury damages in a premises liability case.” His work and cases have been covered by NBC News, KRON4 News, Mission Local, and The San Francisco Standard.
